Review: Skin Inc. Supplement Bar – My Daily Dose of Glow

What It Is: Serum

What It Does: Restores skin suppleness, smooths, and reduces fine lines.

Active Ingredients: Vitamin A, Chlorella, and Hyaluronic Acid

Verdict: You know I’m a huge fan of Vitamin A, so the moment I saw that this serum contained that, I knew it’s promise of better skin would be fulfilled. Vitamin A revives your skin and it’s clinically proven to help restore skin’s youthful appearance, tackle dullness, and combat any environmental aggressors. Chlorella is a form of algae that helps reduce pigmentation and reduce redness. And of course no serum would be complete without hyaluronic acid, it’s basically the ingredient that helps with suppleness and smoothing. Basically this serum is a triple threat to help combat all your skin issues and is proven to give you a better appearance as soon as one day! All you need is three drops daily prior to moisturizer and before you know it you’ll have amazing skin. I really love this product and highly recommend it, especially if you’re trying to turn your skin around and combat dullness, pigmentation, sun damage, and fine lines.

Review: Paradox Lucky Stars Blemish Patches

What It Is: Blemish Patches

What It Does: Visibly reduces the size of pimples and helps promote healing.

Active Ingredients: Hydrocolloid, Calendula, and Tree Tea Oil

Verdict: I’ve been wanting to try these blemish patches out ever since they were sent to me, but lately I’ve been blessed with clear skin. However, not so since the humidity levels have been insane, so I finally got to use them and honestly, look how freaking adorable they are! Unlike other blemish patches you can easily sport these outdoors because a random black star positioned just so on your face will give off major glam Marie Antoinette vibes. But enough of me gushing about how darn cute they are – the real question is: do they work? I can wholeheartedly say that YES THEY DO! These patches truly work wonders! They suck out all the gross pus and impurities while you’re sleeping or going out and about your day allowing the temptation to pick or squeeze said zit to diminish. And I know how tempting picking can be! For my particular zit, it went down with one patch kept on overnight. But by the second one, it made it disappear completely. I cannot recommend this enough if you have a pimple and wish to banish it stat. Not to mention that no one would be none the wiser of what you’re truly concealing beneath the black star.

Price: $18 (for 40 patches)

Review: Belif – The True Cream Aqua Bomb

What It Is: Light weight gel-cream

What It Does: Hydrates and nourishes skin

Active Ingredients: Aloe Vera

Skincare Concerns: Dryness, dullness, and uneven texture

Verdict: When scouting for a moisturizer, I’m looking for two things: that it hydrates my skin and that it’s light enough not to clog my pores. This moisturizer perfectly fits the bill. It’s light and gel-like substance but it isn’t as watery as most moisturizers aimed for oily skin are. It still feels rich without feeling too heavy. In fact, it completely absorbs into the skin leaving it feeling fresh, hydrated, and glowing. It’s truly a tall glass of water for your skin!

Review: Mudmasky – Leave Me On Winter Mask

What It Is: Leave On Moisturizing Mask

What it Does: Protects, nourishes, moisturizes, repairs skin and also helps with anti-aging.

Active Ingredients: Linoleic acid, Jojoba Oil, Macadamia Oil, and Moroccan Lava Clay.

Verdict: I gotta be honest, the cream itself was alright, but it really wasn’t anything to go crazy about. I didn’t see much difference using this cream as opposed to another one. Although if you’re looking for a light moisturizer, then this may be up your alley. Or if you’re someone who’s been having skin problems because of wearing facemasks, this moisturizer has anti-acne ingredients that will keep the dreaded “maskne” at bay. So, this moisturizer has a lot of merits, but I just personally wasn’t too crazy about it because in comparison to others that I’ve tried and based on the price, I don’t think it’s a must-have, however, if you do face some of the issues that I’ve stated above then you may want to check this out.

Price: $44.40

Review: Dermelect Self Esteem Beauty Sleep Serum

What It Is: Highly concentrated multi-tasking exfloliator.

What It Does: Unclogs pores, diminishes the appearance of fine lines and lightens up dark spots.

Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin C

Verdict: I love how this serum works, it feels very soft when I put it on and it has helped control the amount of oiliness I have in my skin. My mother also used it and was very happy with the effects (she says it helped with dark spots, I can’t really say since I don’t have any). But overall, I did notice that my skin felt healthier overall. The only thing that both my mum and I weren’t a fan of, is the product’s scent. For some reason it smells like putting on rubbing alcohol on your face, it’s very potent, but luckily it dies down. I would’ve preferred this if it were scentless, but since it does work overall, I can’t be too mad.

Makeup Haul: Glossier

Glossier is the kind of brand that has gathered devotees like a cult. When I did my first Glossier haul, I was impressed with their products but couldn’t quite understand the cult-like devotion. Fast forward to me purchasing a second Glossier haul, and soon after going for my third haul. In this post, I’ll be sharing products from both my second and third hauls (the only thing I didn’t include was Brow Boy, which I repurchased but already reviewed during my first Glossier haul).

Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve grown weary of seeing beat faces on my Instagram with exaggerated makeup as though we need to recreate a whole new face every morning. Being a makeup lover, I’ve always adored that aspect of makeup being used as a way of transformation, but I also do enjoy it as a means to enhance your own natural beauty. Which is where Glossier comes in. Their brand motto is, “Skin first, makeup second,” and I can get behind that sentiment.

IMG_1401

Brow Flick

Every since NYX discontinued their eyebrow marker, I’ve had to settle for sub-par semi-marker brow products from Revlon in the meantime, so of course, when I saw this product launching I simply had to get it! I know some beauty gurus out there are saying that the product is too sheer, however, I didn’t think that was the case for me at all. I got the shade Brown (to be paired with my Boy brow in Brown) and have never finished my eyebrows in such a short amount of time (two minutes!). Using only two products! (Brow Flick and Boy Brow) Before, I was using a total of SIX eyebrow products (and spending 10 minutes on each brow!), but the microfine tip on this maker makes it so easy to mimic hair strokes (something that I could never achieve with other markers or pencils before and sucked it up to just being a terrible artist, but turns out that I was just using terrible products!). And the sheer colour makes it so it doesn’t look too harsh. In other words, this product is my new ride or die and I BEG Glossier to never discontinue it cause I wouldn’t know what to do without it.

Generation G

I read so many reviews about (some people loved it others were outraged that they spent so much money on a product with very little colour pay off). Now, I’ve been using liquid lipsticks for the past three years and despite the fact that I DO love them, I have grown a little tired of their too makeup look and have been craving for something a little more natural. This lipstick is meant to be sheer and look blotted, so since my lips are naturally super pale, I went for the shade, Zip, a poppy red. Apart from the colour being really flattering on me, what I really loved most of all was the formula. It’s sheer but matte. It’s also moisturizing but not creamy, meaning that it actually is long lasting and doesn’t bleed (one of my bigger pet peeves). I definitely see myself wearing this for the summer months when having heavily lacquered lips may not feel the best when you’re trying to combat the heat and just want to be lazy (but still look pretty too!).

Lidstar

Feeling nostalgic for my teenage makeup days, I decided to select the shade Lily (it’s a sheer lavender hue). Now if you’re one of those people that want uber pigmented eyeshadows, then steer clear of the Lidstars, cause like with anything else from Glossier, sheer is the name of the game. The colour itself is very pretty, but I don’t know if I have personally outgrown the lavender eye look, but I wasn’t too crazy about it. However, I did love the formula and do want to try their other shades (especially Cub and Fawn) that seem more like the shades adult me has worn for the past decade. Maybe there’s a reason why we outgrow beauty looks, because they’re no longer a reflection of ourselves.

IMG_1399.JPG

Primer

Since I don’t wear foundation, I only use primer around my eye area to keep it hydrated before I apply concealer. But I was curious about how my skin would look with their primer since it’s advertised to give a healthy glow. I’ve always been a fan of dewy skin, however, having oily skin means that I can’t really use products meant to enhance dewiness as it just turns into an ugly oil spill on my face. But I don’t know what kind of sorcery they’ve concocted when they made this primer, but this delivers a healthy glow without the extra oiliness. And it does keep the skin hydrated the whole day. And if you’re wondering how much you need to use, a dime size is enough to use on your whole face (maybe two if you’re on the dry side).

After three Glossier hauls, I can totally understand the cult-like following. If you’re someone who simply wants to enhance your own features with a “woke up this way,” vibe to it, then Glossier is your go-to brand for this. And honestly, we could all use a break from having a beat face, cause laziness has never looked so pretty before.

Derma Roller System: One Step to Beautiful Skin

IMG_1363

Every since micro-needling has become a thing, I’ve been curious about this scary yet simple procedure. But I didn’t really take the plunge to try it out until I was contacted by Derma Roller System to try out their product. Not being a fan of needles, I decided to opt for the smallest needle model they had (0.5mm) and hoped for the best.

So what exactly does a Derma Roller System do?

Well, it’s supposed to help rejuvenate your skin, treat acne scars, ease hyperpigmentation, and get rid of the first signs of aging. It’s also touted to boost any product absorption by 90%. I was a sent the DermaC+ Anti-Aging Serum and PerfectDerm Collagen Face Mask to use with the Derma Roller System, and some advise to prep the skin with serum before, although the guide I was sent with the product suggested to prep the skin by cleaning it thoroughly, then to roll the Derma Roller gently over the area you wish to treat 4 times vertically, 4 times horizontally, 4 times diagonally to the left and 4 times diagonally to the right. This should help stimulate collagen and elastin formation in the skin. One note of caution, despite what some Beauty Gurus may suggest on other blogs or YouTube, you should AVOID using the Derma Roller on your eyelids or lips. After you’re done with rolling then you should apply a collagen cream, serum or mask. You may leave the product on, or keep it on your face for 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

IMG_1364

I’ll be honest, I was kinda skeptical at first and a tiny bit afraid. The idea of rolling 200 tiny needles into my skin didn’t sound pleasant in the least, and also had me worrying about possible staph infections (which could happen if you don’t clean your roller after each use, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CLEAN IT WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL OR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE). So, before I began, I decided to watch a few videos so that I wouldn’t end up like Pinhead from Hellraiser cause the only time that look would be cute is Halloween.

Putting aside all my worries, I decided that I was going to see what all the hype was about, and if this medieval torture device looking contraption actually delivered amazing skin.

Now, it takes 40 days for cell turnover to happen, so you need about that time to see some results. I decided to abide by that rule.

I don’t have any hyperpigmentation or acne scars, so I decided to focus on my forehead where I have a slight fine line. It’s advised to use the roller even up to five times a week if the needle size is 0.5mm (like the one I chose). I decided to first use it about two times a week before upping the dosage. The first two weeks I didn’t see much difference, but after the fourth week, I noticed that my skin looked glowing and just overall nicer in appearance.

IMG_1391.JPG

I can’t say how this will work on deeper wrinkles (since I currently don’t have them), but I can say that the Derma Roller System does help improve one’s skintone and that if you’re looking to try out a microneedle, then Derma Roller System would be a nice one to try.

What I liked about the product itself is that it is small, easy to use, and durable. Although it is noted that one needs to change the head after a number of uses.

Should you consider getting a Derma Roller System?

If you want to see some improvement in your skin, I would recommend using this to help you fix any of your skin concerns you might have.

Are the needles painful?

I can’t say about the other sizes, but the 0.5mm were unbearably painful at all. So, if what’s keeping you from trying it is the eventual pain, then go with small needle size and maybe once you get accustomed to it you can always size up later.

Concluding Thoughts

There’s some science to this whole micro-needling hype, and it does help the skin’s appearance in ways that I can’t even explain. If you want to achieve amazing skin, then maybe you should look into investing in a Derma Roller System. It currently retails for $49.95 on their website.

*Thank you Derma Roller for sending me a bundle kit of three of their products free of charge for an honest review.

Glossier – Celebrating Natural Beauty

IMG_1337.JPG

Glossier is the sort of brand that beauty aficionados either love or hate. Although with 1.5 million Instagram followers, there are many that truly love this brand. The brand was founded by Emily Weiss, with the tagline of, “Beauty products inspired by real life.” For those that aren’t fans of the brand, it’s because Glossier strives for natural beauty, meaning that their products are all about creating dewy skin, feathered brows, and lips with a hint of colour.

So of course I wanted to try out this brand and see what all the hype was about. I decided to go for one of their bundles since it was the most cost effective for the price and product amount.

I ordered The Makeup Set which included: Boy Brow (grooming pomade) in Brown, Cloud Paint (seamless cheek colour) in Beam (a soft peach), and Lash Slick (film form mascara).

Cost: $40 (but there’s FREE shipping over $30)

By buying these three items as a set, you save $10, which is a deal!

Boy Brow Impression: It’s thickening and helps bulk up the brow (however you need SOME brow hairs for this), but it doesn’t offer much colour (you’re better off with The Brow Gal for colour).

Cloud Paint Impression: I LOVE this because it offers a hint of colour without looking too made up. It’s the closest thing to a natural flush after a workout you can get sans the thirty-minute gym sesh. A little goes a long way for these, you honestly only need a small dot for your whole cheek.

Lash Slick Impression: I do really love this mascara, but since Wet N’ Wild offers a similar mascara for a fraction of the price (Glossier’s retails for $16 and the Wet N’ Wild one is around $3).

Overall Verdict: I actually really loved these products very much and am considering to purchase different shades of the Cloud Paint, and maybe check out their Lidstar eyeshadows (I’ve been aspiring to a more dewy colour finish than a made-up look lately and feel as though those would be perfect to achieve that). However, if you’re looking for a makeup look that is extremely extra, this brand isn’t about that at all. Glossier is about natural beauty and enhancing your own beauty, so it doesn’t offer much coverage or colour, for it doesn’t strive to eliminate or cover, but rather to enhance and showcase beauty at its natural state. This is the best no makeup, makeup brand you can find.

Review: Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Face Oil

IMG_1330

Face oils are pretty much essential during the winter months if you still want to keep your skin soft and glowing. And don’t fret if you have oily or combination skin, face oils actually HELP oily skin reduce fewer oils, instead of using harsh drying creams that make you produce even more oils. This face oil, in particular, leaves your skin so incredibly soft that with this Polar Vortex taking over most of the U.S. you’ll want to invest in something that will keep your skin hydrated!

What It Is: Face Oil

What It Does: Hydrates and brightens skin

Active Ingredients: Vitamin C, Turmeric, and Primrose Oil

Verdict: I can’t even begin to tell you just HOW AMAZING THIS IS! And yes! This face oil is worthy of ALL CAPS TO EXPRESS MY ENTHUSIASM! I’m in love with Vitamin C oils and/or serums because it truly helps brighten up your skin, and if you’re acne-prone like myself, it actually keeps the zits at bay! The Primrose Oil makes it so that the oil is ultra-hydrating and it smells really good! The tumeric, on the other hand, helps reduce inflammation, again, a plus for sensitive and acne prone skin. This oil is so light-weight that it won’t clog your pores, and it’s also fast absorbing which means that it can be used under makeup if you so wish. If you’re going to invest in a face oil, I’d say go ahead and choose this one cause it’s truly the holy grail of face oils.

Price: $80

Ditch Botox & Eat Collagen-Boosting Foods Instead

Collagen is one of the most important factors when it comes to having beautiful skin. Collagen production helps with acne and wrinkles, however, as the years go by collagen production decreases which makes wrinkles and crepes appear and even healing from wounds will take longer or scar. So how can one pause the hands of time? With a little help from foods that help boost collagen production, you can increase the chances of combating fine lines and have less scarring.

So nix the Botox and try these collagen-boosting foods to help promote not just younger skin, but healthier skin too (because bad skin happens at any age).

Vitamin C

This vitamin is found in many citrus foods such as oranges, kiwis, and pineapples.

Copper

Found in rich foods such as organ meats (livers, hearts, etc.), cocoa powder, and portabella mushrooms

Glycine

This is found in foods such as gelatin, chicken skin, and pork skin.

Zinc

This vitamin can be found in foods such as oysters, beef, and crabs.

As you can see there are many food options out there to help you include more collagen-boosting foods into your diet, so whether you’re vegan, or wish to eat less meat, you can find a way to choose a serving of these foods at least once a day.

Eat your way to beautiful skin and you won’t have to resort to unnatural ways of keeping it looking good!
