Review: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pillow Talk Original

What It Is: Nude Pink Lipliner

Verdict: I’ll be honest, I’ve been wanting to try this out ever since all the It-Girl’s of the past decade have always relied on this lipliner/lipstick shade. Alexa Chung was always seen wearing this shade and looks wonderfully effortless in doing so. My only problem is that the price tag is kinda high if you’re unsure whether the shade will look good on you or not, so I was very excited when this showed up in my latest Allure Beauty Box. I’ll admit that this shade is AMAZING, and the lipliner is very soft and has a smooth application. I decided to apply clear lipbalm over it to help the liner to not look so matte or dry out my lips, but I will be purchasing the lipliner and lipstick in this shade now, as it has become my go-to shade to wear every day. I recommend this if you wish to look put together as in “your lips but better.”

Review: Christophe Robin Hydrating Leave-In Mist With Aloe Vera

What It Is: Leave-In Mist

Active Ingredients: Aloe Vera and flaxseed extract.

Verdict: First things first: this spray smells what you would imagine Kate Middleton’s locks would smell like – elegant and expensive. Secondly, this spray left my hair feeling incredibly soft that I could help but to want to keep running my fingers through my hair. If you have frizz-prone hair (like I do) this really helps with keeping the frizzies at bay and helps your strands stay smooth as silk. It also helps nourish your hair and prevent split ends if used regularly. If you’re going to splurge on a leave-in spray, then this should be your top choice.

Product Review: 369 Project – The Key To The Universe Journal

We’ve seen it everywhere, from journals to self-care gurus and friends and family, it seems like lately everyone is busy manifesting something. What exactly is manifestation? Well, it’s writing about what you wish you had in your life, but as if you’ve already obtained it, and this helps with aligning the positive vibrations to enter your life and help you achieve what you’re meant to achieve.

I used this journal for about two months (that’s the amount of time it took me to fill it). The power of manifestation is to write your intent three times a day (morning, afternoon, and night). Now, this helps you be accountable as the journal helps you not only focus on your manifestation but also keep you focused on how to achieve your goals and how close have you gotten to achieving it, and ultimately it has a daily reflection on what you’re grateful for that day.

Now, I know people are going to ask, “Well does this journal work?” And I suppose it all depends on what your manifestation is. Since mine was a more complex, long-term manifestation, I haven’t seen results right now. That’s not to say that I won’t in the future. However, the journal DID help me in keeping me focused and keeping my intention on the forefront and not something I could put behind me and forget about. Not to mention, that I did notice feeling more positive about my future when writing down my manifestation, so in a way, it helped with making one feel a certain inner peace.

If you’re curious and need guidance on how to manifest your desires, I think that these journals are an excellent source of inspiration and guidance that you will need.

*Thank you to @my369project for a complimentary journal.

Review: Glossier Monochromes in Bluff

What It Is: Essential Eyeshadow Trio

Why It’s Special: Three buildable finishes – Matte, Satin, and Metallic.

Verdict: Now I know that Glossier prides itself in being makeup that enhances your natural beauty and that their products are very sheer, however, I was expecting more oomph from this eyeshadow palette and I fear it never delivered how I hoped it would. Is the application easy and silky? Yes. Are the colours vibrant or pop? No. I’m on the constant look out for the perfect matte peach shade and I’m sad to say, this palette doesn’t deliver in that regard. The matte shade in this palette is so sheer that it doesn’t even look like you’re wearing eyeshadow (and it’s not even the variety of “your eyelid only better” either). The frosty shades deliver better in color and pigment, but honestly not enough for me to recommend it as an absolute purchase. Maybe the other palette shades are more pigmented but as far as this one goes, I wasn’t too impressed by the shades, although the quality is excellent as you’d expect from Glossier.*

*I used primer when applying eyeshadows so w/out primer I imagine the colours would be even less noticeable.

Review: Burt’s Bees Truly Glowing Gel Cleanser

What It Is: Gel Cleanser

Active Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid

Verdict: I want to preface this by saying that I love Burt’s Bee products, however I wasn’t a fan of this product. I’m a huge fan of gel cleansers and since I love many of their previous cleansers, I decided to pick this one one, thinking that I’d love it. Despite my enthusiasm, I did not like this product. I wish I could love this cleanser – but I honestly don’t. First of all, it’s not very gel-like but actually very runny and makes pouring a drop in your palm very difficult as you try to wash your face before the product literally SLIDES off of your hand. Another gripe? The scent. It’s terrible. And since the product is difficult to actually apply, I don’t think I get a thorough cleansing experience. For me, this is nothing to get too excited over. They have way better cleansers to choose from than this.

Product Review: The Sweet Bombs Treatery

This is one of those products that TikTok made me buy, and unlike most things that are sponsored on there, I just happened to have the company’s TikTok appear on my FYP and instantly fell in love with the opulence of it all.

I’m a tea lover and the beautiful Earl Grey Rose Tea simply oozes with Versailles vibes. You know that Marie Antoinette would be heads over heels for this rich afternoon delight. Apart from it looking exquisitely gorgeous, it tastes exactly how you’d imagine elegance and decadence to taste if you could easily bottle it up and sell it. If you ever wondered how it’d feel to have afternoon tea like a queen, then look no further than the Black Tea Milk Bomb.

I also got a Rose Lavender Glazed Shortbread and it was incredibly scrumptious. The shortbread instantly melts in your mouth the second you take a bite. I can’t describe the deliciousness of it, it’s like eating a little slice of glamorous heaven.

Black Tea Milk Bomb

I’m so enamored with these products that I went ahead and ordered their hot chocolate bombs and Pumpkin Latte ones too. If you’re looking for a luxuriant experience, then buying any of these sweet bombs is the best form of self-care there’s ever been.

Black Tea Milk Bomb before hot water.

Review: Glossier – Ultralip in Portrait

What It Is: Hydrating glossy lip balm

Active Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Meadowfoam, Jojoba, and Watermelon oils

Verdict: Nothing kicks off the start of summer like transitioning from a matte lipstick to a shiny glossy one – and now with mask mandates being lifted at most places, you can finally show off your newly minted glossy lips. What I adore about this Glossier formula is that it’s incredibly shiny but without the sticky ickiness that comes from traditional lip glosses – not to mention that the colour selection is PHENOMENAL. The majority of of the hues are universally flattering meaning that you can’t go wrong with any of them! This formula doesn’t bleed at the edges and leaves your lips feeling pillowy soft and nourished while also looking incredibly beautiful. So go ahead and kick your matte liquid lipsticks to the curb – summer is officially here and Glossier’s Ultralip is what should be on everyone’s lips.

Review: Akar Skin Balance Toning Mist

IMG_1655

What It Is: Toner

What It Does: Helps tone and balance skin.

Active Ingredients: Rose, Neroli, Saffron, and White Willow Bark

Verdict: If you’re one of those people who has always avoided toners because you’re afraid of alcohol stripping you away of essential skin oils, then throw away all your fears with this toner! This toner isn’t alcohol-based, but rather it uses soothing floral waters to hydrate AND keeps oily skin under control. I’m a bit picky when it comes to toners, they need to feel as though they’re getting rid of any dirt or grime there might be, but at the same time, I don’t wish my skin to feel like it’s dangerous to be near a match cause of the high alcohol content. I recommend this toner if you’ve got normal to combination skin. The only downside to this toner? Its hefty price. If you can splurge, the toner is worth it. If you can’t, then Pixi has more economical options.

Review: Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack

IMG_1654

What It Is: A deeply cleansing and detoxifying mask to help manage excess oil.

What It Does: Detoxifies oily skin.

Why It’s Special:

-Creamy, White Kaolin Clay gently cleanses, while vitamin-rich leafy greens and superfruit antioxidants nourish the skin.

-Minimizes the appearance of pores, so skin looks balanced with a velvety, clean matte finish.

-Draws out excess oil and impurities, particularly good for oily or combination skin types.

Good To Know: Allergy tested, dermatologist tested, appropriate for all skin types, appropriate for sensitive skin, fragrance-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Verdict: Glossier are best known for their skincare products, since their company motto is: Skin first, makeup second, and because of that I may have expected much more by their face mask. I don’t think the face mask is bad per se, but since it’s supposed to be clarifying, I was hoping that the clay at some point would’ve hardened more than it did and extracted some gunk as past clarifying masks have done (notably the Tony Moly one). I suppose since I have highly oily skin, I wanted a face mask that could temporarily dry out the oil. However, this face mask seems to be designed to clarify and moisturize. What that means is that when the clay dries down, it never makes your skin feel tight and when you wash it off, your skin feels silky smooth. So for that respect, the face mask works well, especially if you have sensitive skin. However, since my skin is very oily I was hoping for something that would leave my skin feeling a little dried out and clean. I recommend this if you have sensitive skin but need a clarifying mask. If like me, you’re on the oilier side, I’d recommend you invest in a charcoal face mask instead, as that will do the trick.

Review: Dr. Botanicals Lemon Superfood All-In-One Rescue Butter

IMG_1651

What It Is: Balm cream

What It Does: Hydrates

Active Ingredients: Vitamin A, Coconut Oil, Lemongrass Oil, and antioxidants

Verdict: Since we’re living during a pandemic, I’ve had to up the number of times I wash my hands (let’s just say that I now understand why OCD people feel so anxious). But all this handwashing has caused me to get hand eczema (a very unsightly and painful issue). This butter is meant to be used all over the body, and under normal conditions, I probably would’ve considered using it as a face moisturizer. But these are unprecedented times, so I decided to use this all-in-one rescue butter for my hands (because of its Vitamin A qualities). Let’s just say that this butter has been a lifesaver. In a matter of TWO DAYS, my hand eczema disappeared and I was left with beautiful pre-pandemic hands. This butter is so rich that a dime-size is all you really need for hours of hydration (or up until you have to wash your hands, yet again). Apart from this butter being a miracle-worker, it also serves as a mini-aromatherapy session as it has a light lemon scent that helps ease any feelings of anxiety you might be feeling (and honestly who isn’t anxious right about now?). I love this product SO MUCH that I’m willing to purchase it when I run out (I received this in an Allure Beauty Box). I completely recommend this butter for all of your skincare needs, you won’t be disappointed.
